Super Typhoon Lawin destroyed Northern and Central Luzon regions of the Philippines

typhoon-lawin-damaged-photo-1The tropical cyclone with international name “Haima” entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) as a typhoon on 17 October 2016. On 19 October 2016, “Lawin” intensified into a “Super Typhoon” (STY) and Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal (TCWS) No. 5 (highest warning signal) was raised over Cagayan, Isabela, Kalinga,Apayao, Northern Abra and Ilocos Norte.

As of 24 October 2016 Situationer Report,  effects brought by STY Lawin were as follows:

  • A total of  33,183 families or 158,863 persons were displaced from their homes. These were served inside and outside the evacuation centers.
  • A total of eight (8) were reported dead and one (1) reported injured  in Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).
  • A total of 46,257 homes were damaged (6,551 totally and 39,706 partially)  in Regions 1, 2, 3 and CAR.
  • A total of 64 barangays were reported flooded in the Province of Pangasinan in Region 1 and in the Provinces of Bataan and Pampanga in Region 3.
  • A total of P 2,527,246,025.16 worth of damages incurred in Regions 1, 2, 3 and CAR. (Breakdown: Infrasturcture= P1.583,404,188.00 and Agriculture=P943,841,837.16)

A total of P31,456,688.51 cost of assistance was provided by DSWD and LGU’s to the affected families in Regions 1, 2, 3 and CAR.
