The groundbreaking event towards the construction of Benjamin Romualdez International Convention Center (BRICC) was held on 7 February at Tacloban City, Leyte, Philippines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BRICC is a three-storey building with a seating capacity of 5,000 guests and will be built within the 20,620 square meter lot at the old Leyte Park Hotel Complex along Magsaysay Boulevard, Tacloban City.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amenities of the international convention center will include retail concourse, food and beverage services areas, lounges, large parking space, and other utilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second and third floors are designed to be used as a multi-purpose venue that can accommodate large number of seating capacities, with the provision of mezzanine, plenary areas, rooms, lounges, retail among other facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BRICC once built, is envisioned to host national and international events thus becoming one of the major MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) destinations in the Philippines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Philippine’s Department of Public Works and Highways through its regional office at Eastern Visayas will implement the construction of BRICC. According to DPWH <\/strong>Eastern Visayas Regional Director Edgar Tabacon, the first phase of the BRICC project has a P500 million pesos allocation while its second phase has a funding of 250 Million pesos.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The groundbreaking event was attended by House Speaker Martin Romualdez, Congressman Jude Avorque Acidre, DPWH Executive Regional Director Edgar Tabacon, among other local government officials and staff of the DPWH.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Benjamin Romualdez is the father of the House Speaker who served as governor of Leyte from 1967 to 1986, and Philippine Ambassador to the US from 1982 to 1986.<\/p>\n\n\n
