The Eastern Visayas Regional COVID-19 Testing Center (Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory) of  the Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center (EVMRC) in Tacloban City, Leyte, Philippines is now certified by DOH to perform independent testing for COVID-19 by Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR).<\/p>\n

The RITM-DOH has released the certificate as of May 8, 2020.<\/p>\n

The molecular laboratory of EVRMC shall continue to participate in the Proficiency Testing Program of the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine, follow Operational Guidelines for COVID-19 Laboratories and abide by the highest laboratory quality standards.<\/p>\n

Last May 3, 2020, a team of pathologists and medical technologists from EVRMC was sent for a 3-day COVID-19 Proficiency Testing at Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center Sub-national Laboratory and TB Laboratory-CHD 7 in Cebu. <\/p>\n

The molecular testing laboratory is in stage 4 for the accreditation as a testing center for  COVID-19 in the region. A proficiency testing will be done before stage 5 or the fnal stage of the accreditation. Once the lab will be granted stage 5 accreditation by Research Institute of Tropical Medicine (RITM), it can now run the RT-PCR tests for the entire region. (Eastern Visayas CME)<\/p>\n
