In accordance with Republic Act No. 1745<\/strong>, \u201cAn Act Declaring October Twenty of Every Year a Special Holiday in the Province of Leyte, Amending for the Purpose Section Thirty of the Revised Administrative Code,\u201d<\/em> work in all government offices and classes in all levels, both public and private, are suspended on Monday, October 20, 2025<\/strong>, throughout the Province of Leyte<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This annual holiday marks the commemoration of the Leyte Gulf Landing<\/strong>, a historic event that saw the return of General Douglas MacArthur<\/strong> to Philippine soil on October 20, 1944<\/strong>, signaling the start of the nation\u2019s liberation from Japanese occupation during World War II<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year\u2019s celebration, the 81st Leyte Gulf Landing Anniversary<\/strong>, will be held at the MacArthur Landing Memorial National Park<\/strong> in Palo, Leyte<\/strong>, with the theme:
\u201cFreedom\u2019s Price: Honoring the Past, Protecting the Future\u201d<\/strong> (\u201cHalaga ng Kalayaan: Parangal ng Nakaraan, Pag-iingat sa Kinabukasan\u201d<\/em>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The annual rites will be led by Leyte Governor Jericho Petilla<\/strong>, Palo Mayor Matin Petilla<\/strong>, and officials from the Provincial Government of Leyte<\/strong> in partnership with the Department of National Defense (DND)<\/strong>, the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO)<\/strong>, and the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dignitaries, veterans\u2019 families, local officials, and students are expected to attend the commemorative program featuring a flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremony<\/strong>, cultural presentations, and historical exhibits highlighting the heroism and unity of Filipino and Allied forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the province pays tribute to its storied past, the government encourages Leyte\u00f1os and visitors alike to honor the bravery and sacrifices<\/strong> of those who fought for freedom, and to draw inspiration from their legacy in shaping a peaceful and progressive future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
