Calbayog City, Samar – October 26, 2025 — The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) welcomed the inaugural Philippine Airlines (PAL) flight connecting Cebu and Calbayog on Sunday morning, marking a major step toward strengthening regional air connectivity in Eastern Visayas.

The maiden flight from Cebu arrived at Calbayog Airport at 8:42 a.m. and departed back to Cebu at 9:20 a.m. The new route will operate four times a week — every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday — offering greater convenience for travelers between the two key Visayan cities.

The initiative aligns with the administration’s efforts to enhance inter-island accessibility and stimulate regional economies, following the directives of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez.

CAAP Director General Retired Lt. Gen. Raul Del Rosario emphasized the importance of improving regional air routes, stating,

“By strengthening air links, we make it easier for people to travel for business, leisure, and family visits, while boosting tourism and local development.”

The launch of the Cebu-Calbayog route underscores CAAP’s continued commitment to supporting airline expansion and enhancing aviation infrastructure across the country. The new service is expected to foster tourism, encourage investments, and provide residents with more travel options, ultimately contributing to the sustainable growth of Eastern Visayas.

With this milestone, CAAP and PAL reaffirm their shared goal of connecting more Filipinos through safe, reliable, and efficient air transport — paving the way for a more accessible and economically vibrant Philippines. #EVCHub
