Tacloban City — Authorities have announced new traffic guidelines allowing heavy vehicles to cross the San Juanico Bridge under controlled conditions beginning December 17, 2025.
Under the updated policy, trucks with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of up to 30 tons will be permitted to cross the bridge exclusively during nighttime hours, from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. The crossing will operate on a one-way-at-a-time basis to ensure safety and structural protection of the bridge.
Officials also clarified that the previously announced dry run scheduled for December 18, 2025—which was intended to test a possible daytime crossing schedule—has been postponed. The postponement was made to allow for further consultation with concerned stakeholders. As a result, 30-ton trucks and other heavy vehicles will remain restricted to the designated nighttime window until further notice.
Motorists and truck operators are reminded to strictly observe safety regulations while crossing the bridge. These include maintaining a maximum speed limit of 30 kilometers per hour and keeping a minimum distance of 40 meters between vehicles.
Authorities thanked the public and the transport sector for their understanding and cooperation, emphasizing that the measures are aimed at balancing economic activity with public safety and infrastructure preservation.
